SUMMARY:Alumni Entrepreneur Sharing - From Campus to Global Impact -
DESCRIPTION:As part of Hangzhou Alumni Week\, our director opened the doors to a group of international students from Hangzhou Normal University. No panel. No podium. Just a long table\, a lot of curiosity\, and the kind of conversation that’s hard to manufacture. \nThey talked about life. Not the polished version—the real one. What it’s actually like to be a student in China\, far from everything familiar. The quiet disorientation of a new city. The unexpected kindness of strangers. The slow\, awkward\, wonderful process of building a life in a language you’re still learning. \nAnd then\, naturally\, the conversation turned toward the future. Careers. Ambitions. The pressure to have it all figured out. Our director didn’t offer shortcuts. Instead\, she offered something far more useful: attention. She listened\, shared a few hard-won lessons\, and treated their questions with the seriousness they deserved. \nIt’s easy to underestimate what happens in moments like these. But for students navigating a foreign country and a foggy professional landscape\, a single unhurried conversation can cut through a lot of noise. It reminds them that someone sees potential in them—not as a statistic\, but as a person. \nThere is a reason why Hangzhou Normal University is one of the best universities in China. The constant desire to find new ways to put its students first\, make it stand out.  \nAs our director said\, we are lucky to host such amazing international student. If this is what alumni engagement looks like\, we should all be doing more of it.

SUMMARY:Symposium of The Center for China-Africa Discourse Studies
DESCRIPTION:Inaugural Africa Day celebration\, aimed to project a vibrant and authentic image of Africa to a global audience\, is billed to hold in China in May. The Center for China-Africa Discourse Studies made this known on Wednesday in Lagos. \nThe Communications Director of the centre\, Queen Modestus\, said in a statement that Africa Day in China was being spearheaded by Africans residing in China. \n \n“In what is being described as the biggest celebration of Black culture in Asia\, preparations are underway for the first-ever Africa Day celebration in China\, scheduled to take place on May 23 at the Marriott Hotel in Beijing\,” Modestus said. \nThe director said that the celebration had the support of major African corporations. \n“The event will be hosted by Dr Joseph Olivier Mendo’o\, Head of the African Youth Delegation in China and one of the 100 most influential people of African descent (2023). \n“We don’t want to let the cat out of the bag\, but a prominent Nigerian bank and the national airline of an East African country are among the lead sponsors. \n” Additionally\, a major South African brand is expected to join\, alongside several non-profit foundations and intellectual bodies advocating good governance and pan-African unity. \n“This is not just a celebration; it is a cultural statement. Too often\, Africa is misconstrued as a single country due to racial homogenisation\,” she said. \nModestus said that the event was being aimed to dismantle such a misconception and present the continent in its full richness and diversity. \nShe described the initiative as a celebration of Africa by Africans for Africans\, adding that it would blend corporate support\, academic engagement and community involvement. \n“Also\, foundations with strong pan-African values are expected to play an integral role.” \nShe said that the celebration was being intended to become annual. \nAmb. Martin Mpana of Cameroon\, who is the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in China\, is expected to give an address at the occasion\, according to Modestus. \nShe added that the event would feature a high-level panel discussion and a dedicated forum for African community leaders.
